York is set for a flurry of hen do’s this coming weekend, as it’s expected to host more bride-to-be parties than Benidorm.
The city is already one of the more popular locations for hen do’s, but this weekend will see it top the sun-soaked Spanish resort, new research suggests.
And while Spain usually promises sunny weather, York’s forecast is looking just as hopeful as it’s set to stay dry and warm for the party goers.
According UK stag and hen organiser Last Night of Freedom, more than 1,000 hens will enjoy their pre-wedding bash in York this weekend, outnumbering those visiting Benidorm by almost four to one.
Last Night of Freedom’s managing director, Matt Mavir, has previously defended stag and hen parties from city leaders, who he says have relied on “lazy stereotypes” to vilify them – instead saying that responsible, organised tourism plays a vital role in supporting local businesses.
“Thankfully for businesses in the city, efforts to single out hen parties for criticism haven’t forced our customers to go elsewhere, especially with resorts like Benidorm ready to step up,” he said.
“Hens appreciate the warm welcome they get from York’s buzzing city centre bars and restaurants, and it’s always been a popular location for people celebrating ahead of tying the knot.
“We’ve had a mixed bag of weather from the UK’s summer so far, but what stays consistent is the love that our customers have for York.
“The stats show that they love York and I can’t blame them, it’s a beautiful city with a great atmosphere.”.
Statistics have shown that throughout the last year, only Liverpool and Newcastle have beaten York to hen party numbers, with our small city higher than the likes of Belfast, Dublin and Manchester.
