A York road is closed again tonight – the third time it’s been shut this year.
Skeldergate is closed for emergency gas repairs.
Access is still available to Fetter Lane at the Micklegate end of the road.
It is due to be closed for nearly a week, with the work scheduled to finish next Tuesday (31 October).
York Travel on X described it as an “emergency road closure for Northern Gas Networks gas main repair works”.
Disruption for road users has been a feature of the route this year.
Northern Gas Networks closed Skeldergate for more than four weeks between January and March 2023 to replace metal gas pipework with “more durable plastic pipes”.

We have asked the company if these works have failed, resulting in the need for emergency repairs.
Then in July, Skeldergate shut again for three weeks of improvement works aiming to improve cyclists’ safety.
The road is used by many York buses so the latest closure may have an impact on some public transport times.
