York’s river level is still rising slowly and should now peak tomorrow, according to the latest forecast.

The Ouse had reached 4.06m at 10.45am today (Saturday, 14 January) – the top of the ‘normal’ level is 1.9m.

It is predicted to peak at 4.10m by 9.15am tomorrow (Sunday).

There are still five flood warnings and 18 flood alerts in place across North Yorkshire. You can see the latest here.

Today Skeldergate is closed from its junction with Fetter Lane. Here, water from an outflow pipe is cascading onto the road.

And the water has encroached across Skeldergate at the Terry Avenue end.

Temporary walkways have been constructed to allow residents to access their homes off Skeldergate, including the Bonding Warehouse and Emperors Wharf.

In general, however, York is largely unaffected.

Riverside walkways are underwater, Rowntree Park remains closed as a precaution, and both the St George’s Field and Esplanade car parks are shut.

Otherwise, the city is open for business and operating normally.

In Tadcaster, there is some floodwater on Bridge Street. According to the Tadcaster Community Action Group: “The pump is on standby. We do not expect this to progress much further.”
