A York restaurant and takeaway will operate on Christmas Day for the second year in a row, aiming to provide free food to as many of those who need it.
Middle Feast on Lendal will be open from midday to 3pm on Christmas Day offering a free wrap, hot drink, or soup.
They’ll be available for NHS staff, emergency workers, homeless people, anyone who’s lonely and refugees.
The staff will also be distributing Christmas bags for those who live on the streets, which will include gifts purchased by the Middle Feasts owners.
The eatery has operated in the city for almost nine years, serving a variety of Shawarma, falafel, salads, burgers and chicken wings.
Owner Wael Garas launched their Christmas day offering in 2023, telling YorkMix, “you need to give some little gift to everyone.”
“We are all like a family. Christmas day is a big thing here, everybody spends some money – but some people don’t have money,” said Wael.
The Lebanese restaurant provided around 500 people with a free hot meal last Christmas, and Wael often gives out food to the homeless.
He said: “If you stay on the street, I have to give food or clothes.”
Alongside organising the festivities, Middle Feast are bringing back some Christmas favourites in the lead up to the big day.
These include a Cranberry Margarita Christmas Cocktail Special, Mulled Wine, Baileys Hot Chocolate, and the Turkey and Cranberry wrap.
