Emergency services were called after two people were seen in the river in York this afternoon (Saturday).

Police were alerted after the people were seen entering but not leaving the River Ouse near to Clifton Bridge.

Officers called out York Rescue Boat to assist in the search at 3.18pm.

A rescue boat spokesperson said: “A search was carried out by our boat and foot teams as well as asking members of the public in the area if they had seen anything.

“Nothing was found so team stood down.”

Earlier today rescue boat volunteers were called out to a “report of an object in the River Ouse in the vicinity of Rawcliffe Ings”.

“Our volunteers responded with boat and foot teams, the object was located and description passed to the police,” the team said.
