The biggest week in York sport is back – and it could attract bumper crowds.
York Racecourse bosses hope that The Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival could rival or surpass the 83,000 spectators who came to the 2019 event.
It runs from Wednesday (18 August) to Saturday, and grandstand tickets are already sold out for the fourth and final day of the festival. Advance tickets remain for the other three days.

And around 9,000 tickets will remain available each day for the Clocktower Enclosure, reserved for pay-on-the-day customers.
Clerk of the course William Derby told the Racing Post: “Ticket sales have been encouraging so far. We had 83,000 for Ebor 2019 so we’re hopeful of getting close to or above that number. But we’re pleased just to be racing in front of crowds again.

“We have reached our grandstand capacity for Saturday, but people can still come along to the Clocktower Enclosure as that is pay-on-the-day only.
“The rest of the week we have availability for the County Stand and the Grandstand and Paddock area and we hope that the fantastic racing on offer will encourage anyone that’s a racing fan in the north of England to come along.
“On Saturday we’re expecting to have slightly over 30,000 in attendance so we’re really excited to be getting going on what has been a two-year absence to the Ebor Festival for most people.”

Ebor Festival highlights
There’s £4.7m in prize money at this year’s Ebor Festival – more than double last year’s event – including the £1m Juddmonte International.
And this is the first year that racegoers will enjoy a 28-race programme with seven races on each day – previously there were six races on the midweek race days.
On all four days, stand-side racegoers will be able to watch and participate in the York Gin Ebor Fashion Lawn, hosted by Ben Fry of YorkMix Radio. Any racegoer on stand-side is invited to pop along between 12.30pm – 2.30pm, walk the catwalk, and have the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes whilst having a great time with their party.
Ladies Day is on the Thursday, where you dress to impress.
