A York pub is planning to turn their beer garden into street food heaven.
The Fox on Holgate Road is to host regular foodie events in their large garden over summer.
“We don’t have a pub kitchen, but our customers do like eating – so we needed something,” explained Mandy Pegg, manager of The Fox.
The Fox started by hosting their own barbecues for a while, but didn’t have the facilities to make the food as exciting as they envisioned.
So they put out a call-out for city food vendors to serve their food from their beer garden – with no charge for being there.
“I liked the idea of being able to give a local food business space to serve from and boost their business,” said Mandy.
“In return our existing customers are kept happy with food offerings, and we benefit from new custom who visit the pub to try it out.”
The Fox have hosted a wide variety of food vendors in the past including Street Cleaver, Dough Eyed Pizza, The Happy Gherkin, Jamaican Street Food, YO31 Wood Fired Pizza, Moo Moos Burgers, Tuk & Dough, Shori Ramen and Bao Bar.
The event has also provided a space for budding food vendors to try out their ideas before committing to start a business – and customers love it.
“It’s a welcome addition to the pub,” said Mandy. “Especially so when we have beer festivals, or the weather is great and our beer garden is full.
“The smell of the food usually speaks for itself and a queue forms!”
The date for the next event is still yet to be confirmed.
If you’re a food vendor who would like to get involved, message The Fox on their Facebook or Instagram pages.
