A much-loved York pub has shut suddenly.
The Wellington Inn on Alma Terrace off Fulford Road was open at the weekend, but closed on Sunday night (April 2) and has not reopened.
This unique pub, found in the middle of a terrace street off Fulford Road, is owned by Sam Smith Brewery.

YorkMix understands that the manager was told to vacate the premises by Monday morning by the brewery. The manager has since left York.
On Wednesday evening the Wellington was still shut with the curtains closed. There was no notice to explain what was happening or to tell locals when it might reopen.

Known by locals and real ale fans as the Welly, the pub has twice won the Pub of the Season, as awarded by York Campaign For Real Ale.
With a front bar, a back room, and a front pool room it is a snug pub laid out in the Victorian style, with a real fire to keep all comers warm in winter.
YorkMix is seeking a comment from Sam Smith’s Brewery.
