A York pub has reopened under new management today (Thursday).
The Marcia Grey in Acomb, York, has a new landlady. Sophie Langan, from York, is ready to take on a new venture in this much-loved community pub.
After a short period of closure, the Marcia Grey reopened today from 12pm.

Sophie wrote on The Marcia Grey’s Facebook page that she “can’t wait to start this new adventure” and gives a “big thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way.”
Sophie has big plans for the pub, including event nights like karaoke – which kicks off on Saturday 1 February from 8pm.
The pub features a cosy seating area inside with a log burner, as well as two beer gardens offering plenty of outdoor seating too.
It was announced in December 2024 that The Marcia Grey had been acquired by pub company Punch Pubs & Co.
Speaking about the acquisition, Punch Pubs & Co head of estate development and acquisitions, Andrew Cannons said: “The Marcia Grey is a fantastic community pub, and we are looking forward to working collaboratively with the existing team to ensure a smooth transition.
“We are confident that, with the help of Punch’s industry-leading investment and support, it will continue to remain at the heart of the village for many years to come.”
Punch Pubs operations manager, David Hill, added: “The Marcia Grey is a brilliant, wet-lead pub with strong ties to the community of Acomb.
“Our objective is to retain its positive reputation and work alongside the existing team to ensure that the pub continues to thrive.”
