A long-closed York pub could reopen this year after a series of refurbishments.
Gibsons, found next to Micklegate Bar, shut in December 2019. Owner Star Pubs and Bars – the leased pub business of Heineken UK – won planning permission to refurbish it inside and out in September 2023.
No work has yet been carried out.
Now the company has now asked City of York Council to approve new plans – allowing it to reopen this year.
The plans would see the first floor manager’s office converted to a private dining room to accommodate small dining groups.
And a catering kitchen would be added on the second floor.
Existing planning permission means Gibsons could be given a new look to the exterior, including repainting and new signs.
Inside, new seating and interior design would refresh the ground floor. Under the conditions of planning approval, the work must begin before September this year.
Built in 1861 as a town house, the three-storey building was converted into a licensed premises four years later.
Previous owners Jon Bon Gibson and Lee Wilkinson revealed it was going to close in December 2019, saying they were ready to move on, after enjoying “amazing times” at the pub.
