Annual music concert York Proms is back for 2023 – with a special A Night at the Musicals themed show.
The evening will feature songs from shows both classic and modern, including Les Miserables, Wicked, Cats, The Sound of Music, West Side Story and more.
York Proms is back at the Museum Gardens on Sunday 18 June 2023.
The line up for 2023 features West End star, Shona Lindsay – who made history as the youngest actress ever to play Christine in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera.
Completing the line up are international opera singer Jennifer Coleman and Opera North tenor Tom Smith. The live orchestra will be conducted by Ben Crick.
The event will open with local soloists and groups, such as Lucy’s Pop Choir, performing on the community stage. Plus the award-winning NE Musicals will be joining the main show to perform songs from Oliver and Les Miserables.
There will also be a fireworks finale over the Abbey ruins.
Organiser, Rebecca Newman, said: “I am honoured to say we survived the pandemic largely due to the loyalty and patience of our audience that we’ve built up since we launched in 2017.
“For 2023, the York Proms has attracted a range of sponsors and a grant from York BID, which has allowed us to invest in making the event bigger and better than ever, and helped to ensure its continued survival.
“In recent weeks we’ve seen unprecedented ticket demand and the event is due to sell out in the next few days.”
