York Pride is set to return later this year – with RuPaul’s Drag Race stars to headline the festival.
It’s been announced that fresh from the runway of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season five, drag superstars Michael Marouli, Tomara Thomas, and winner Ginger Johnson will be headlining the main stage at York Pride this year.
The ‘Angels of the North’ will be performing an exclusive show at the festival, amidst their upcoming UK tour.
York Pride will take place on Saturday 1 June 2024.
Each year York Pride celebrates the city’s LGBTQ+ community with a parade and festival which welcomes over 10,000 people. The annual free festival is delivered by a committee of 20 volunteers, and is a day of fun and inclusion.
The popular pride parade will return for 2024, departing for the Knavesmire from the iconic York Minster at 12pm.
York Pride chair Greg Stephenson said: “We are beyond excited to have not one, but three northern queens on the main stage at Pride this year.
“York Pride has become a staple in many people’s calendars and every year the committee work hard to ensure that it is a day to celebrate diversity and enjoyed by everyone attending the festival.”
In the lead up to the big day, there are performances, nights out, fundraisers and more taking place in the city organised by York Pride. We’ve put together a guide to them below, which will be continually updated in the run up to June.
York Pride have also launched their 2024 wristbands, which offer you great discounts at a variety of retailers and attractions in the city.
Since the festival is a free event, the wristbands are a key source of funding. For 2024 there are three designs to choose from: the pride flag, the bi flag, and the trans flag. Get yours online here for £6 or in person at the Visit York Information Centre and LNER Travel Centre.
