Police were called after young people gathered to celebrate leaving school.

Residents in Haxby and New Earswick reported around 50 kids gathering in the area.

There were reports of anti-social behaviour and fires being started.

Police said they believed the incidents involved students from Joseph Rowntree and Huntington Schools.

Last night, officers patrolled New Earswick and Haxby in response to the public concern.

They tweeted: “Parents please be mindful and ensure your kids are celebrating safely.”
