A boy needed a three-hour operation after an accident at a York play area.
The Orchard Park Community Centre play area has been closed since the incident on Thursday (12 November).
The boy’s mother, who did not want to be named, told YorkMix that the accident happened after school.
Her son, 11, was playing with friends at Orchard Park at about 4.15pm. “My son calls me crying – I go there he has a cut on right knees side to side bone deep,” she said.
“He was skidding on his knees near zip wire. He got up, walked off and collapsed.
“I got there and had to ring an ambulance.”
Investigation underway
They took him to accident and emergency. But the boy had to return to hospital for a three-hour operation on Friday.
“They thought he may have had ligament and bone damage – but luckily it was only tissue damage,” his mum said.
They ‘flushed out’ the wound and stitched his injuries.
It wasn’t a problem with the equipment, but something on the ground that caused her boy’s injuries, the mother said.
She reported the accident to the woman who runs a pre-school group at Orchard Park, as her younger children go there every day.
They closed the park to investigate and check for glass, the mum said.
