A York pharmacy is shut after it was raided early this morning (Thursday).
Monkbar Pharmacy on Goodramgate hopes to reopen later today.
There are signs in the window saying: ‘We are closed until later due to an incident’.
The window in the door of the pharmacy has been smashed, leaving a gaping hole. Police are searching for two suspects seen leaving the scene on bikes.
In a statement, Monkbar Pharmacy said: “I can confirm that Monkbar Pharmacy was broken into last night.
“We are closed and will remain closed until the police have completed their on site investigations. We hope to reopen later today.
“We will not be able to process or hand out prescriptions until we open.
“If a person requires their medication before we reopen we would appreciate it if they could email us to request that their prescription is released to allow another pharmacy to process it.
“We would appreciate people leaving our phone lines clear for those who cannot use other methods to contact us and to allow staff on site to focus on assisting the police and clearing up.
“We are unable to say anything more at this point.”
The email is [email protected].
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at about 4.40am today with a report that a business on Goodramgate had been broken into.
“Two suspects were seen leaving the premises on bikes.
“Officers attended immediately and contacted the owner to make them aware.
“Enquiries are at an early stage, and will continue throughout the day.”
Pharmacy staff are outside the business this morning to give information to customers.
A police crime investigation team is at the scene.
