A York performer has gone viral for joking that he will snort cocaine daily as part of charity event ‘Coketober’.
Theo Mason Wood has been getting millions of views on various social channels for his parody of other charity events.
But not everyone has seen the funny side – he’s had his TikTok channel suspended and some of his Instagram videos have been taken down.
Under the TikTok community guidelines, it says: “We do not allow showing, possessing, or using drugs.
“We recognise that these substances can put young people at a heightened risk of harm. We do not allow showing young people possessing or using alcohol, tobacco products, or drugs.”
Theo said on his first Coketober video: “Hey guys, I’m excited to announce this year I’m going to be participating in Coketober.
“So I’m going to try to do coke every single day in October for charity. Please just follow me wherever you’re watching this, and we’ll see how it goes.”
Off screen he appears to snort a line of the drug.
His followers have been joining in on the joke. “The hero we don’t deserve,” said one.
“Finally some awareness for such a good cause. Tackling the big issues one line at a time. Proud of you bud,” said another.
Others didn’t get it. “Coketober is insane,” one commented.
Theo is a musician, writer and comedian. He was one half of York based duo Lungs with Bonnie Milnes.
He has written and performed plays and was the co-writer of one episode of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix show The Gentlemen with brother Billy.
The pair have other scripts that are waiting to be produced with TV companies including Hat Trick Mercurio, Euston Films and Baby Cow.
Theo is also an award winning comedian, having won the 2023 Berlin New Stand Up Awards.
The Comedy Café in Berlin hailed “his bizarre comedy, weaving together absurd poetry with electronic music and stories about a suspected yoghurt allergy”.
Theo’s from an entertainment background. His father is Michael Wood, a playwright better known as Mike Kenny. His adaptation of The Railway Children for York Theatre Royal won a Olivier Award.
His mother is actor Barbara Marten. She is most known for playing Eve Montgomery in Casualty.
