Fares are going up on York Park and Ride buses from this weekend.
City of York Council and First York are introducing the higher fares from Sunday (February 4).
The new Park & Ride fares are:
- standard return up from £2.90 to £3.10 (6.9% increase)
- weekly smart tickets up from £11.60 to £12.40 (6.9% increase)
- monthly smart tickets up from £46.40 to £49 (5.6% increase)
- annual smart tickets up from £464 to £490 (5.6% increase)
There are new discounted tickets for children and young people aged 18 or under:
- child return £1.60
- young person’s return £3
Travellers aged 16 to 18 can buy a First young person’s day ticket for £2.30 with a YOzone card.
And there is good news for families, as up to three children, aged 16 and under, can now travel for free with any full-fare adult return or concessionary ticket.
Further investment
The partnership has increased some fares due to the increased costs of running and improving the Park & Ride network, which consists of 38 buses and six sites and carries over four million passengers a year.
Councillor Ian Gillies, executive member for transport, said: “It is never an easy decision to increase fares, but we believe these are a fair reflection of the increased investment required to continue Park & Ride’s success story.”
Marc Bichtemann, managing director for First York, added: “The Park & Ride offer will benefit from further investment in the next 12 months, which includes the introduction of more electric vehicles and improvements to the car parks.”
The council and First York are also reminding customers to check that they are making the most of savings available through different ticket options.
For example regular commuters can pay £2.11 per day with an annual permit, £2.45 per day with a monthly and £2.48 with a weekly ticket.
Occasional users can buy a ‘carnet’ of five day tickets for £14, which can be used at any time within one year of purchase.
