An indie York optician has been crowned the UK’s Fashion Practice of the Year.

Rae & Rae, an independent business based on Bishopthorpe Road, was awarded the prestigious title at Optician Magazine’s annual awards ceremony, which recognises and rewards excellence in optics.

The feat, achieved in the business’s first year of trading, is made even more impressive given the “record number of entries” reported by Optician, with every category “fiercely contested.”

The family-owned practice is fronted by mother-daughter duo Tracey and Georgia Rae alongside dispensing optician Lesley Collins, who was also shortlisted in the Dispensing Optician of the Year category.

Judges praised Rae & Rae’s “bold approach to eyewear” which made it a trend leader.

Georgia said:

It is hard to put into words how much this award means for our small practice, particularly in our first year of business. We are so immensely proud of our little team.

To get national recognition, and from such a prestigious and respected industry publication as Optician Magazine – particularly considering the record number of entries this year – truly was the icing on the cake of a challenging but amazingly rewarding first year for Rae & Rae.

We work enormously hard to source fun, new, exciting and largely previously unheard-of eyewear designers to York and our little Bishy Road store.
