A new night market which was to have run for the first time in York this week has been postponed.
York Creatives were ready to host an evening at Shambles Market, featuring artists and independent traders, along with DJs and street food.
It was billed as a ‘celebration of art and culture.’
But the original date, Friday 20 August, has been canned after an intervention from York’s Safety Advisory Group SAG.

Instead, it will now run on Friday 17 September.
In a statement York Creatives said: “Shambles Market agreed to provide enough security for the event but did not put in a policy for managing additional numbers due to the races.
“Our priority is to ensure a safe environment for our traders and the public, and after speaking with the Safety Advisory Group we agreed the only responsible option was to move the date of the event.
“We apologise to everyone who had made plans to attend the market and we hope you will be available to join us on the 17th September.”
