York is one of the best places to raise a family in the country.
That’s the finding of a new study. It looked at cost of living, quality of living, childcare costs, quality of schools and house prices across major towns and cities to find the best locations to bring up kids in England.
And York came in joint fourth.

Three quarters (75%) of residents deemed York a good place to have children. When asked York residents named areas such as Heworth, Osbaldwick, Holgate, and Woodthorpe as top areas to raise kids.
But what makes York such as great spot for families? Well, round a fifth (21%) of schools in the area have an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating, which was named the top priority for parents (or would be parents) nationwide.
It also performed well regarding crime rates, placing 7th with 73 crimes recorded per 1,000 residents and placing 7th when looking at air pollution and the number of child-friendly local activities.
However, the city ranked nearer the bottom of the table when looking at childcare costs, with private nursery costing parents an average of £2,250 each month.
