York moped seized by police after rider seen ‘pulling wheelies’
A moped rider failed to impress police with their stunt riding in York last night (Wednesday).
And as a result they ended up walking home.
A force spokesperson said: “Officers from the York West Neighbourhood Policing Team stopped a vehicle tonight that was observed pulling wheelies and driving well below the standard of a competent driver.
“The driver was already subject to a Section 59 warning and as a result the moped was seized and the rider reported for careless driving.”
A Section 59 order is issued when a vehicle is causing/likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.
The same policing team also seized two stolen motorbikes in York in the Foxwood and Holgate areas.
“An 18 year old male was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has since been released under investigation,” police said.
“We would like to thank members of the public who continue to report suspicious activity to us.
“We have seen an increase in reports of joyriding and would encourage members of the public to continue to report mopeds and/or motorbikes being driven in an anti-social manner, being driven off-road and riders without helmets.”
