Something a bit different is coming to York Minster this spring…
The iconic York landmark is set to host a heavy metal concert this April – that will showcase their magnificent Grand Organ.
Yes, you read that correctly! The evening of heavy metal music will be headlined by ‘electro-symphonic-metal powerhouse’ Plague of Angels, in this first-of-its-kind event at the Minster.
Organic Metal: Two Worlds Collide is at York Minster on Friday 25 April 2025.
The Grand Organ will take centre stage for the evening, with the band positioned around the console.
Led by classically trained vocalist Anabelle Iratni, Plague of Angels specifically curate their concerts to complement the instrument – and what better setting to hear the full scale of their music than York Minster’s Nave.
The concert will be split into three performances. David Pipe, former assistant director of music at York Minster, will lead an organ recital featuring classics from heavy metal pioneers like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.
Then Aaron Stainthorpe, vocalist for My Dying Bride and High Parasite, will perform a set inspired by the metal genre and accompanied by the organ.
Finally, the evening will end with a one-hour set from Plague of Angels, which will include performances of their singles What Lies Beneath and Beyond Salvation.
Tickets for Organic Metal: Two Worlds Collide go on sale from 10am on Monday 3 February. Tickets start from £12 (with a concessionary price of £6 for those aged 27 and under) and are available via the York Minster website or by calling 01904 557200.
