A day after it unexpectedly rang out the Christmas bells, York Minster had to close.
A power cut at the cathedral meant that it shut its doors to the public.
The Minster authorities announced the problem via social media. In an update on its Facebook page later they posted:
Due to power cut, we have had to close the Minster to the public. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

We are sorry there will be no Choral Evensong @York_Minster this evening because of the power cut and safety of the public.

It came only hours after volunteer bell ringers rang out a Christmas peal – the first time the bells had been heard since the Minster’s own team were disbanded in October.
