We have taken an owl’s-eye view of this year’s York Maze design – and people are going to love it.
YorkMix revealed last month that the theme of the gigantic puzzle this year was the Gruffalo, to mark the 25th anniverary of the treasured children’s book.
Today, we finally got to see the finished design from above. And it looks fantastic.
The Gruffalo himself dominates the image of course, along with his child, and the real star of the story, the mouse.
Also there are the three animals they encounter in the wood – the fox, the snake and the owl.
Covering an area the size of eight Wembley football pitches, York Maze is believed to be the biggest maze in Europe and one of the largest in the world.
Farmer Tom Pearcy has cut out over 3.1 miles of pathways in his 15 acre field of over a million maize plants to mark The Gruffalo’s 25th birthday.
The Gruffalo in the maze is over 150m (492ft) tall and is believed to be the biggest image of the character ever created.
The Gruffalo 25th Anniversary Maize Maze will be open for visitors to explore from tomorrow (Saturday 13 July) to Monday 2 September, when the crop will be harvested.
Families have to navigate the maze of pathways in the crop to find the six viewing platforms and the special photo points featuring the animals in The Gruffalo story. Find all the animals and you could win a prize.
