Kieran Skelton was ready to head home after a night out in York.
But the next thing he remembers is waking up in a pool of his own blood after an attack which seemingly came from nowhere.
Kieran, 22, suffered a broken nose and concussion in the attack which took place at around 3am on Sunday (December 10).
The incident has also left him with memory loss so he is appealing for anyone who saw anything to come forward.
Needed a brain scan
Kieran, who works as a care assistant, was near the taxi rank on Duncombe Place close to York Minster when the incident happened.
He said a man attacked him. “I can’t remember anything other then being covered in blood and seeing a pool of my own blood on the floor,” he said.
“A really nice lad helped me there but I can’t remember who he is.”
Because of his memory loss, Kieran had to have a brain scan. The former All Saints School and Askham Bryan College student is now recovering at home.
“I’m a little sore as expected but fine physically and mentally – although I could have done without the broken nose,” he told YorkMix.
Who did it – and why?
He has been sharing his experience on social media because “I’d really like to find out who did it and why!”
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: “We received a report at 1.47pm on Monday (December 11) that a man has been attacked whilst waiting for a taxi near to the Dean Court Hotel in York, causing facial injuries which required hospital treatment.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
