Those magical folk from the Foss Fairy Trail in York are holding a bee-themed festival this weekend.
As well as an event celebrating our buzzing friends, it is also part of the trail’s work to support families in the local area and to promote the ecology of the Fairy Trail.
The Bee Festival will take place at the picnic table area of the Foss Fairy Trail, just off Heworth Green where the trail starts, on Saturday 12 August, from 1-3pm.
The free event will include a variety of bee-themed activities for children and families to get involved in:
- Crafting stalls
- Bee pompom making
- Bughouses
- Mini bee gardens
- Pebble painting
- Magnet fishing
- Storytelling
- Pin the crown on the queen bee
With prizes up for grabs too!
There will be an opportunity to learn all about bees as a beekeeper will be on hand to explain all about the pollinating insects. However, they won’t be bringing any bees so those more nervous around the insects shouldn’t worry.
The Foss Fairy Trail was first created in 2021 by Tracy Ostle, after she came across some fairy doors on trees on a walk down the river path by the Foss. Inspired by what she saw, Tracy made her first fairy house, and the rest was history.
From there the trail has grown – both in the amount of fairy houses and in popularity. The trail is home to fairy doors, a Fairy Tooth House, the Green Elf Pub, the Fairy Castle, Fairy Cake Bakery, a Hot Air Balloon, and even a fairy boat.
The trail has brought a lot of positivity and joy to the local community, as well as maintaining the area as a pleasant and clean place to walk.
There is no need to book for the Bee Festival – simply turn up and join in the fun!
