A new dance studio is planning to open at what is now a York library.
Plans are in to turn Clifton Library on Rawcliffe Lane into the studio as the library moves to a new site.
The Spotlight Dance Academy has submitted the proposal.
A design statement says: “The building is currently in use as a public library and has been for the past 40 years.
“It is in the heart of a residential area (Clifton Without and Rawcliffe), to the north of York.
“It is an ideal location for use as a Dance Studio which is largely centred around (but not exclusively) children aged 3 to 18 years.”

The statement says the site already has disabled access and toilets as well as a car park with 18 spaces.
“Most of the public that will use the new Dance Studio walk to their lessons and will benefit from the two separate pedestrian entrances to the site. Pedestrians should have no need to walk through the car park,” it says.
“A grassed area to the front of the building will be suitable for waiting parents without blocking any public footpaths.
“There are no residential properties immediately connected to the Dance Studio building, with hedges surrounding the property on three sides. The fourth side being attached to an existing public children’s playground.”

Plans are well underway for a new £5 million Clifton Library on the Clifton Without County Junior School site in Rawcliffe Drive, which was last used in 2011.
In an update this month, Explore York Libraries and Archive said: “Final building work is progressing swiftly and we hope to be ready to get the library furniture in during summer, with lots of books on the shelves ready for an autumn opening.”
