New research shows that York is in the top ten of most-searched for places to live on a property website.
According to Rightmove, the city was the eighth-most popular place on the site during the first two months of 2021. At the top is Cornwall, replacing London which drops into second place.
Interestingly, York was in a higher position before the pandemic. It was in sixth place in January and February 2020.

Most want to move
Meanwhile, lockdown has made more than two thirds (68%) of York homeowners want to move to a new property, according to a separate survey.
This is the figure that told Zoopla that the pandemic has made them want to move to a new property.
Its data for early 2021 also revealed demand for extra family living space had increased – with searches for ‘gardens’ topping the list of search terms for buyers in York.
Six of the ten most searched-for terms by property hunters in York during 2020 related to increased indoor and outdoor space.
Ben Hudson, director at Hudson Moody estate agency, said: “There’s no question that lockdown has really dialled up the desire for York homeowners to find a new property.
“Whether it’s looking for additional space for a home office, a bigger garden for family time or an annexe for a child to return home or a parent to move in, the desire for new property has skyrocketed since April 2020.”
