If you noticed how packed the city was on the first day of half term yesterday, you may not be entirely surprised by this news.
York is officially the most popular city in the UK.
Respected international research company YouGov undertakes a survey every quarter on the popularity of British cities.
And York hit the top spot in the third quarter of 2021, with a 73% popularity rating.
York
- Fame (have heard of) – 97%
- Popularity (liked by) – 73%
- Disliked by – 2%
- Neutral – 22%.
Broken down by age group, York’s popularity was:

It’s 73% popularity rating meant it leapfrogged Edinburgh to the top spot. And it was a clear seven per cent ahead of London at number three.
