City of York Council and York in Recovery is delighted to announce it is hosting the first seven-a-side York in Recovery Football Cup Tournament on 25 September at Play Football, Stirling Road, Clifton Moor.

The tournament will follow a Champions League-style format to ensure every team gets the most out of the day, which will also include further games to determine the overall winning team and runners up.

The entry fee is £25 per team and all money collected from fees will be used for competition prize money that will be donated to the chosen charities of the winning teams. The winning team will be presented with the York in Recovery Football Tournament Cup.

There is a 16 team limit and the closing date for entry is Monday 9 September.

Leigh Bell, Public Health Substance Misuse Strategic Lead for City of York Council said: “”This is a brilliant idea!

“The game of football has been bringing groups of people together for years so for York in Recovery to host its own Football cup tournament fits really well with the group’s aims.”

Andy Ryan, Operational Manager, The Cyrenians said: “The football tournament is another organised event which demonstrates the positive movement in York to improve awareness, understanding and support for recovery. We’d like to encourage the community to come along to support the teams and be part of the day.”
