A York garage would be demolished to make way for luxury flats under plans now in with City of York Council.
Property company Real Estate Investment Management Ltd wants to build 14 apartments at 106-112 The Mount.
There would be one main building containing 11 apartments, and a smaller building to the rear with another three.
To make way for the flats, the Kwik Fit garage on the site would be demolished.
Planning documents describe the garage as “of poor quality, not in keeping with the character of the surrounding area”
But the the south-west corner of the building “has an element of facade retained from the original C19 building on the site” and this would be retained.
Following consultation with City of York Council, the developers have made the proposed building car-free, with no parking spaces. There would be secure storage for 30 bikes.
The 14 apartments would comprise:
- two one-bedroom and one bathroom
- one two-bedroom and one bathroom
- seven two bedroom and two bathroom
- four three bedroom and two bathroom.
Planning documents state: “All flats have large open plan kitchen / living / dining rooms and built in storage space, and approximately 50% of the flats benefit from private outdoor space or balconies.
“All flats have access to a shared open space to the rear of the development.”
They conclude: “The proposed residential development at 112 The Mount will replace the existing Kwik Fit garage with a new use more appropriate to the residential area in which the site is located.
“The appearance of the scheme has been developed over a two-year pre-application period, to respond appropriately to the historic location with a sympathetic contemporary approach, retaining the existing section of historic fabric that remains on the site from the original 19th Century dwelling that preceded the KwikFit on the site.”
