York gallery raises £4,000 for Mind – in memory of Jake
A York art gallery has raised £4,000 for Mind, thanks to a painting created in memory of a much-missed young man.
Gallery director Anne Braithwaite has been fundraising throughout 2020 for the mental health charity in memory of her son Jake.
Jake took his own life aged 20 in 2018 after a battle with mental health problems.
Looking After Eachother is a very special piece created for the gallery by Sam Toft as ‘a picture for Jake’.
Sam specially re-marqued artist’s proof number one of 40 with lots of little illustrations next to the title and signature.
The gallery raffled this unique artwork and raised £1,470 for mental health charity Mind. The winner was Julia, from Rawcliffe in York.
More money was raised via a donation from each print of the painting sold.
You can still buy limited edition prints of the picture for £135, or donate £10 to the Mind fundraiser, through YorkArtist.com.
Anne said: “Mind has been the gallery’s good cause throughout 2020 ‘to make sure no one has to face mental health problems alone’ – the charity’s tag line has never been more appropriate than this year.”
