A York funeral director is encouraging York to get talking about dying, grief and plans for the end of life with an open day for the public.
Hayley Owen Funeral Director will be opening the doors at their Boroughbridge Road HQ on Thursday 5 May between 11am and 4pm to raise awareness and answer any questions – including around any pre-conceptions – about the big D word.
An optional tour will also be on offer.
The event will take place as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week – a national campaign to open up conversations about death and dying.
Dying Matters Awareness Week takes place from 2 to 6 May 2022.
Sarah West, Hospice UK and Dying Matters director of campaigns and communications said: “It is so important to talk to friends, relatives and loved ones about your and their wishes for end of life care.
“The pandemic has seen many more people dying at home, and while we know that health and social care staff are doing their best in the hardest of circumstances, they’re often finding themselves without the specialist knowledge or capacity to look after dying patients and their families.
“Dying Matters Awareness Week is a great way for communities across the UK to get the conversation started.”
Hayley Owen Funeral Director is at 169 – 171 Boroughbridge Road, YO26 6AN.
