Looking for something new to get your teeth into?
Well, this could be just the thing. A York pizza specialist has brought the first Chicago Deep Dish Pizza Pie to the city.
EborCibus has added the authentic Chicago speciality to its existing American specials the New York and Detroit-style pizzas.
The man behind EborCibus, Connor Calland, said his place will be “one of two pizzerias in the UK serving authentic Chicago Deep Dish Pizza”.
This pizza pie was invented, so they say, in 1943. “It’s most certainly a knife and fork affair, a more delicate dining experience!” says Connor. “The rich tomatoes, Parmesan and buttery crust serenade your pallet.”
So where can you get such a dish? At The Corner Pin on Tanner Row, from 12 April.
Adapted quickly
EborCibus was established at the popular pub right at the start of the pandemic by Connor.
But the story began in January 2020 in Connor’s garage in Ryther, with friends and neighbours sampling the pizza.
The first pop-up was at The Jolly Sailor in Cawood on 14 March. Then when lockdown came, the company had to quickly adapt into a takeaway delivery service to ensure the dream stayed alive.
Throughout the pandemic EborCibus offered takeaway to build the business, equipment and customer base.
Since then, the company has given away thousands of free par-baked pizzas away to families in need and made it onto the list of York’s best pizza places.
All enquiries regarding getting a slice of this new pizza pie should be directed to the Corner Pin York – contact via Facebook to secure a booking.
