You might think fish and chips are as British as a rainy bank holiday.

But when Millers Fish & Chips in Haxby set up shop in Japan, they found the locals developed quite a taste for one of each!

David Miller and son Nick have just taken part in a British trade fair in Tokyo – and they ended up serving a whopping 10,500 portions of fish and chips.

David told YorkMix: “This was our fifth visit to Japan and we have also participated in other fairs during Covid where set up a satellite shop up and organised it from Haxby.

“We have worked in cities across Japan, including Osaka, Fukuoka, Tokyo and Nagoya.”

They usually go twice a year and work in the country’s biggest department stores – the Harrods and Selfridges of Japan – with names like Hankyu, Isetan, Mitsukoshi and Takashimaya.

“We can serve up to 1,000 portions of fish and chips per day,” David said.

“We use all of our own products that we would use in Haxby to ensure an authentic product and we export them from the UK.

“We serve as ambassadors for the UK and the fish and chip industry as a whole by showcasing our nations favourite iconic dish.”

Luckily we don’t have to travel so far for a taste of Millers’ internationally renowned cuisine.

Named Fish and Chip Shop of the Year in 2018, you can find their shop on The Village, Haxby, or you can order via their app. More on their website here.
