A family-run steakhouse is celebrating after climbing to the hospitality summit – by being named the number one restaurant in York.
Casa Brazilian Rodizio at the bottom of Micklegate is officially “#1 of 565 Restaurants in York” on global review site Tripadvisor.
Originally opened as Vaqueiros, York’s first Brazilian rodizio, in 2016, the restaurant was rebranded in 2020.
By taking Tripadvisor’s top spot, Casa’s “passion, dedication and authenticity” had shone through, a spokesperson for the indie restaurant said.
“It proves that in the battle between the local independents and corporate behemoths, staying true to yourself pays off.
“And in York, people appreciate that kind of authenticity, supporting the businesses in their community that share the same values.”

Owner Eduardo Caetano, the man behind Casa’s success, said: “Our aim at Casa Rodizio has always been to offer our guests an unforgettable taste of Brazil’s culinary traditions.
“We take immense pride in crafting an experience that not only tantalises the taste buds but also transports our guests to the vibrant streets of Brazil.
“We are immensely grateful to our loyal customers and the amazing York community for their support.
“This achievement is not just ours; it belongs to every member of York’s independent food and drink scene and to everyone who believed in us.”

At the heart of the Casa experience lies the traditional Brazilian “rodizio,” where a continuous parade of succulent meats is carved tableside until diners are fully satisfied.
Seafood enthusiasts and vegetarians are also catered for on the menu, and Casa also features a bountiful salad bar.
There are also specialist drinks to try – like caipirinhas, the national cocktail of Brazil – and the desserts include the owner’s grandmother’s cherished recipe for Brazilian Pudim de Leite – a rich and creamy caramel flan.
