A York dentist is looking to register more children for NHS appointments.
It follows a rising incidence of dental decay among children in the city.
According to a 2018 Public Health England survey, 15.6% of five-year-olds in York had experienced tooth decay. This was a higher percentage than other areas of Yorkshire and the Humber, but lower than the national average.
Blossom Family Dental Care is looking to register more children for NHS appointments at the practice to ensure any tooth decay is picked up early and treated before hospitalisation is required.
Please email [email protected] to register your child for an NHS appointment.
The dental practice, based on Blossom Street, has installed a dedicated toothbrushing station in the practice and won Best Children’s Dental Practice in Yorkshire 2023.
Dr James Harrison, Clinical Director & Dentist at Blossom Family Dental Care, shares his advice to help prevent tooth decay in children:
- Limit the amount of free sugars children eat or drink.
- Make sure children only have food or drinks that contain sugar at mealtimes.
- Avoid giving children fruit juices and smoothies.
- Encourage children to brush their teeth regularly with fluoride toothpaste.
Blossom Family Dental Care stopped NHS treatment for adults last year.
