The York company which manages the Street Ranger service has won a contract to do the same in Newcastle.
Eboracum Group, founded by Carl Nickson, is now managing the Newcastle Street Rangers.
The York Street Ranger service is an initiative by the York BID (Business Improvement District). It is the Newcastle BID, called NE1, that has appointed Eboracum to run their version.
In both cities the rangers are the eyes and ears on the streets, gathering vital intel and reporting directly to relevant partners, including the police and the council.
They are also a highly visible presence, working closely with businesses and providing information, directions and a friendly face for visitors and locals.
Eboracum has developed specialist software bespoke to BIDs that improves reporting and operational efficiency.
It also highlights businesses the team hasn’t engaged with, allowing the rangers to expand their focus beyond the retail core to target and support more of the city’s businesses.
Eboracum has run the York Street Ranger service since 2016, working closely with the York BID, its levy payers, the police and City of York Council.
Managing director of Eboracum Group Carl Nickson said: “We are delighted to be working with NE1 to deliver the Street Ranger service in the city.
“Newcastle city centre is a very compact area, and whilst this is perfect for art, culture and entertainment, it can bring additional challenges.
“NE1 is committed and determined to improve the culture, economy and street spaces in the centre of Newcastle for its levy payers, so we couldn’t be happier to be working with them to manage the Street Rangers.”
He added: “Our approach is to create a tight-knit team that knows each other and understands what is expected.
“The NE1 Street Rangers will be well supported in their work.
“We plan to arrange exchange visits between our York and Newcastle teams to share best practices, create strong team spirit and foster a greater understanding of the wider company and its ethics.”
Mark Sumner, head of operations at NE1, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Eboracum Group.
“The team has a wealth of experience and a proven track record in running a highly successful and professional Street Ranger operation in York and working with the local police and city council.
“We look forward to them applying their skills and knowledge to our Street Ranger service in Newcastle and the City Safe scheme. Our blue uniformed rangers are well known and recognised here in the city and the new management team will enhance the service.”
