Hollyoaks fans, meet Cleo McQueen, the teenage brainbox of the family.

Around these parts, Cleo is better known as Nadine Mulkerrin – former York College performing arts student.

Nadine plays the sister of Porsche and Celine McQueen in the popular Channel 4 soap, and she will make her debut on the show on Monday, January 26 at 6.30pm.

As her showreel above shows, she’s certainly got the acting chops to take on such a demanding role. And since leaving York College is 2011, Nadine has found plenty of work in the television and film industry.

She has played the role of Chloe in BBC One sitcom In With The Flynns and has had parts in Waterloo Road, Doctors and Still Open All Hours, working alongside star David Jason.

Nadine played Sam in the “blood-soaked, deliriously warped” horror movie Inbred (see the video for a few shocks!). But perhaps her biggest opportunity prior to Hollyoaks was playing Amber in the film Urban And The Shed Crew, which starred Richard Armitage, Anna Friel and Neil Morrissey.

‘And this is me…’ Nadine as herself

Nadine, who is originally from Ilkley, said: “York College was good for me. Much of what I was taught on the performing arts course is relevant to working in industry.”

The college got her auditions for the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) and the Guildford School of Acting – and she won a place at ALRA. But she didn’t take it up, preferring to work on the big and small screen.

Nadine said:

“Even so, the work I did on my audition pieces gave me the confidence and skills to go along to auditions for television work.

“I had a two hour journey to college and for the last five years I have worked as a waitress to afford my expenses.

“Getting this role in Hollyoaks means I can give up my waitressing job and I have started a new life in Liverpool where Hollyoaks is filmed.”
