Lifelong fan Robert Beaumont on a winning day at Wembley
All the pain, anger and frustration that have come with supporting dear old York City over the years are worth it for days like this.
Watching Gary Mills’ brave and resilient side lift the FA Trophy in the amazing surroundings of Wembley was magical. OK, City didn’t play brilliantly, especially in the first half, but we were worthy winners.
This was the perfect dress rehearsal for next Sunday’s crunch match against Luton and will have given all the players really useful confidence for a tough test.
Some already look at home at Wembley – Mclaughlin was superb throughout whilst Chambers and Gibson had excellent games too. Smith and Challinor grew in confidence as the match progressed and Blair scored a memorable goal. Parslow and Ingham put in great shifts, too.
We missed Kerr and Doig and we will have to step up a gear to beat Luton. But we can do it and, my goodness, I think we will do it. I can’t wait to be back at Wembley next week.
