York City games will now will be available to watch live via the insight4 platform for £7.99 for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
After a successful period of live stream testing, where the club provided a free live stream and asked fans to ‘pay what you can’ alongside the Virtual Turnstile initiative, the club will now switch to a pay per view model.
Full payment details and streaming links will be available on the club website in advance of each match.
The club says it would like to thank supporters who watched the live streams and contributed to the Virtual Turnstile, which raised over £3,000.
With uncertainty surrounding crowd capacity and matchday income for the foreseeable future, the opportunity to create consistent revenue via our live stream now becomes incredibly important.
Media Officer Dan Simmonite said: “After two successful free-to-watch test streams this month, we are now confident we have a reliable service to offer to our supporters.
“I’d like to thank fans for their patience and feedback as we navigated this new digital territory.
We intend to thank fans for their support by making some games free-to-watch at points throughout the season and also continuing with our prize draws via the Virtual Turnstile.”
Commercial Manager Chris Pegg added: “The pay-per-view live stream model, which has been adopted by most clubs across the football pyramid, is a great way for us to engage with our fans and also create some much needed revenue to help with the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
“The Brackley Town match prize was the newly-released York City replica shirts (home, away and third – worth £120) and we are delighted to announce that the winner was Andrew Henk of York who will be contacted in due course.”
