York City has warned fans that they are tightening up their turnstile operations over a ticket dodge.
It comes after the biggest ever City crowd at the LNER Community Stadium watched the team in action yesterday (Easter Monday).
The club says that it has noticed “a large number of supporters purchasing tickets in the incorrect age category to gain entry at a reduced price”.
The statement said: “While we understand the enthusiasm and desire to be part of these crucial games, we ask everyone to make sure that tickets are purchased in the correct age category, to keep things fair for all fans and to ensure the club receives the vital funds needed to operate and grow.
“Please be aware that anyone found to have deliberately bought tickets in the incorrect age category risks an indefinite ban from York City home games.
“The club will be conducting additional checks on matchdays, and anyone attempting to enter with an incorrect ticket will be refused entry.”
A total of 7,918 tickets were sold for City’s 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic yesterday – which the club described as a “York City FC attendance record at the LNER Community Stadium”.
There is only one remaining home match of the regular season, against Solihull Moors on Saturday.
But then, on 14 May, City will be hosting the first play-off semi-final against whoever wins the eliminator tie, a clash between the teams which finish fifth and sixth.
The club statement finished: “Let’s now focus on backing the lads and pushing for a strong finish to this incredible season.”
