York City FC has new owners.
A company controlled by the wealthy Uggla family has taken control of the football club, with mother and son duo Julie-Anne and Matt Uggla set to become co-chairs.
After just less than a year in charge, controversial chairman Glen Henderson has sold his 51% stake to 394 Sports Ltd, run by the family.
As YorkMix reported, the rumour that the Uggla family were interested in the club has been the talk of the City faithful for weeks.
Matt Uggla was part of a consortium which tried to buy Yeovil Town – at deal that collapsed last month, with Mr Uggla saying it “wasn’t to be”.
Matt confirmed that they have been in talks with York City for a while. “It’s amazing to get it done,” he said.
“It has been a pretty quick process and we need to hit the ground running because things are getting underway and we need to catch up with other teams who have had all summer to prepare.
“We can really take this club as far as we want to take it, I think the sky really is the limit, there’s not really a ceiling on this club.
“It’s just a case of putting the right structures and plans in place to really go for it.”
Matthew and Julie-Anne will be formally appointed club directors following completion of the required FA and National League processes. The two York City Supporters’ Trust-appointed directors Alastair Smith and Mike Brown will remain on the board.
Matthew said: “The new owners would like to put on record their thanks to the Supporters Trust for their extensive work in helping us to complete the takeover.
“We look forward to working with all supporters to deliver a brighter future for the club.”
Worked with supporters
York City Supporters’ Trust said they have been “speaking with the Uggla’s representatives for a number of months, and have found them to be highly dedicated and professional in their efforts to join the York City family”.
The Ugglas met with members of the trust and passed its “scrutiny process with their professional manner and desire to work with the city community for a better future,” a statement said.
“Julie-Ann and Matt impressed with their proven success in business and resources to invest in club operations and the team.

“They outlined a vision to realise the club’s potential, aligning with supporters, and capitalising on significant opportunities to grow commercial revenue to benefit the football club.”
The takeover comes in the week the team reported for pre-season training, and fans will be hoping for some new signings soon.
The supporters’ trust will retain its rights in the club under the deal.
“This agreement is something both sides can be incredibly proud of, it puts community at the heart of our football club as it moves forward and shows a commitment to guardianship from both sides,” the trust said.
