Police have made an arrest after a raid at a York jewellers today (Wednesday).
A member of the public reported that a window had been smashed at the Ernest Jones store on Coney Street at 6am.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended immediately, and within 20 minutes a 40-year-old man was located and stopped nearby.


“He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, and remains in custody at this time.”
They said a number of suspected stolen watches were recovered. Enquiries are ongoing.
A police cordon was placed around the Ernest Jones shop this morning. An officer was also standing guard in front of the shop.
A side window had been smashed, with shattered glass littering the doorway. The broken window is next to a display of luxury watches.
Coney Street remains open to traffic and pedestrians.
