A former café and shop is due to get a new lease of life.
What was Triathlon Bikes and Kona Coffee on Walmgate could soon become a Buddhist Centre.
Plans are in to transform the ground floor of the Grade II listed building.
Planning documents state: “The use of the space will be used for Buddhist worship, meditation and study of meditation.
“These include guided meditation sessions for all levels of experience for both new members and regulars; an Introduction to Buddhism and Meditation; study groups for community members; and a series of day retreats.
“The maximum number of people likely to be present at any one time will be 35.”

Run by volunteers, it would open from 9am to 9.30pm Monday to Saturdays, and 9am to 5pm on Sundays.
No alterations are proposed for the shop front. A stud wall would be added inside to create a meditation space.
Triathlon Bikes opened on Walmgate, complete with its Kona coffee shop, in March 2020, just before the first coronavirus lockdown.
Owner of the shop Drew Mitchell told YorkMix that York was the perfect venture for his shop as it is so cycle friendly – with the third highest levels of cycling per population size in Britain.
