Big news for pudding lovers: you can get hot crumble and custard from York Christmas Market this year.
Fruit crumble and custard is one of Britain’s most classic (and most delicious) puddings – and a chalet at York Christmas Market is set to satisfy all your sweet cravings.
Crumbles is new at the market this year. It is part of Shambles Kitchen, who have their own festive stall on St Sampson’s Square serving up Scandi Sausages.
At Crumbles, there are three hot fruity fillings to choose from: apple and cinnamon (£6), apple and blackberry (£6.50), and rhubarb (£6).
The filling is then topped with a scoop of crumble and then lots and lots of piping hot custard.
You can also add an extra topping of chocolate chips, Biscoff, fudge bits, meringue, marshmallows, raspberry bits, almonds, and more for an extra 50p each.
Why not combine meringue and raspberry to make an Eton Mess topping or chocolate chips and marshmallows to make Smores – complete with a blow torch finish.
Ed Chapple, supervisor at the Crumbles stall, told YorkMix that “it’s been a fantastic reaction so far.
“Everyone’s been loving it. We’ve had a lot of happy customers – a lot of people saying they’ve never seen it before as well.
“Most people normally go hot chocolate but maybe we can bring crumble into the mainstream.”
If you don’t catch Crumbles at the York Christmas Market, don’t worry – they will be coming to a permanent spot in Shambles Market in the new year.
That sounds pretty crumble-tastic! Crumbles will be open at York Christmas Market on Parliament Street until Friday 22 December.
