Traders on York’s Christmas Market have received a hi-tech business boost.
Trading from the city centre has many advantages – but broadband speed did not used to be one of them, as festive stallholders knew to their cost.
But now they are enjoying super-fast speeds – after the network provider bringing blazing broadband to the heart of York stepped in.
UK Fibre Networks has been powering up the internet for countless city centre businesses this year.
Companies hampered by the glacial connections of yesteryear have been transformed thanks to full-fibre speeds of up to 900 Mbps.
And now York’s Christmas Market is benefiting from the same futuristic service.
Traders had been struggling to process digital payments due to connectivity issues.
A temporary wi-fi network, backed by UK Fibre Networks’s ultra-fast broadband technology, has been installed for those selling products from the popular festive stalls – and all for free.
“We wanted to support them so they could make the most of this busy trading period,” said Pete Evans, UK Fibre Networks director.
“As a local super-fast internet provider we worked tirelessly to set up a short term solution.
“Our team worked quickly to set up an innovative short-term solution which has already been praised by traders.”
UK Fibre Networks has been upgrading properties across the city to increase speed and reliability over the last year, but this is the first time they have installed a temporary solution for a specific event.
