York’s Christmas market has only been going for 12 days – and already it has been named among the most picturesque in Europe.
The market, at the heart of the St Nicholas Fair, opened on 18 November. This year the cabins are back-to-back on Parliament Street in order to give more space for shoppers.
And today it was revealed to be among the most photographed on the continent.
Out of the 600 Christmas markets running across Europe, York comes in at number 19 – with 6,446 posts on Instagram using the market’s hashtag.
The research was carried out by the campervan people at PaulCamper.
At number one was Zagreb market in Croatia, with Christmas at Kew in London in second place.
York was behind Manchester, Birmingham and Bath markets, but ahead of those in Berlin and Leeds.
