A York café had an unwelcome guest in the early hours of yesterday morning, when an intruder broke in through the front door.
The rader smashed the door’s glass panel to gain entry to Oleria Patisserie on Gillygate. Police have been informed and were at the site this morning.
The eatery, on Gillygate, has branches in three locations including on Bootham in York and in Harrogate. It’s run by Leah Williams, who notified YorkMix of the break-in.

Leah told YorkMix she believed, “they were looking for cash”.
Luckily, no money was kept in any of the branches so the intruder left empty handed.
The event is one of a number break-ins in Gillygate in recent months. Both Love Cheese and Sore Thumb Retro Games both got broken into earlier this year.

Leah told YorkMix: “Gillygate does face these issues, there’s a lot of crime on the road.
“By announcing it we’re trying to prevent it, now we know and we are more cautious.”
Although the door is boarded up, Oleria Patisserie in Gillygate is still trading.
The Harrogate branch will be closed for the remainder of the week to sort out the formalities of the break-in, but you can check out the businesses official social media for further updates.
