The great and the good gathered at a civic event at the Alpine Café in York – with the message that it’s ready to welcome parties large and small.
There are actually two Alpine Cafés, one on each floor of the Go Outdoors store at Vangarde.
The Lord Mayor of York Cllr Margaret Wells hosted a special reception on the first floor café, which has 150 covers.
Guests tucked into delicious home-cooked food, including burgers, chilli con carne, macaroni cheese, and scones.
Although the Alpine Café has been open for a while now, many residents have yet to discover it, manager Tracey Goodall told YorkMix.
And it’s not widely known that groups can hold events and get-togethers at the cafe, which can be specially catered for.
The main café itself is big – but there’s also a large room unseen by most diners which is available for private events.

At the official opening, the Lord Mayor welcomed representatives from her charities for the year, including the Stroke Association and York Rugby League Football Club Foundation.
The Sheriff of York Fiona Fitzpatrick also spoke about their year in office and their upcoming events including the Lord Mayor’s Golf Day.
